In August 2015, MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board), the Ministry of Finance and the SPK (Capital Markets Board of Turkey) practically moved into our company’s headquarters and performed their inspections one after another.
In some of our companies, they were on the third round of inspections.
All the necessary information and documentation was instantly submitted to them. Meanwhile, all other government bodies were inspecting the mining plants with a fine tooth-comb – over and over again, and each time for a different reason.
While the government bodies were continuing their intensive inspections and suppression, drones from the ‘media pool’ were flying over my house and the press were repetitively printing the most absurd headlines in their newspapers over and over again, every day.
An invasion of weird people wrapped in white sheets like shrouds sprang up around us coming from here, there and everywhere.
We received death threats, and then – on one of those August days, we were woken up bya police raid at our house and at all our companies. Most of our top managers were taken into custody.
The reason given for this was these three slanders against us:
Our trust was sent 150 million USD from Eregli Demir Celik. We laundered SEVEN BILLION USD, moneysent abroad by BANK TRANSFER. Donations of gold were collected from people and shown as production.
The first accusation was found to be false by all parties. Nothing of this sort happened and apparently it was a bank error.
The second accusation proved to be unfounded, as it is not possible to launder money using a bank transfer. All banks must report money transfers and all transfers were reported on time. And SEVEN BILLION USD was the sum of all the foreign investments in Turkey.
The third accusation proved to be unfounded too.Firstly, the income of all gold companies can only come officially throughthe Istanbul Gold Exchange. There is no other way.Secondly, so called ‘donation gold’can only be processed in scrap-gold refineries, and Koza does not have one. Koza sends its own scrap gold to other refineries to be processed.
